Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain (11th August 1925 – 1st December 1997) a leading exponent of devotional music and esteemed social worker. His musical journey started at a tender age of 5 in Punjab (Multan, Undivided India) and went on to penning 100s of songs which were a mix of devotional, patriotic, philosophy and social with references to Indian culture. He was recognized as “Shabda Brahma” devotee, viewing music as a spiritual practice.
He released music and play booklets under “Ghanshyam Bhajanawali” from 1940s and recorded with HMV, T-Series and Yuki. He emerged as a multifaceted individual, a gifted musician, a devout spiritual seeker and a compassionate philanthropist. He received recognitions for his musical contributions, including the titles “Sangeet Samrat” and “Sur Samrat” in 1960s.
During 1947 Partition, he courageously rescued people from Multan, utilizing his knowledge of Islamic culture. After losing his wealth during partition, he successfully re-established himself with businesses like R.S.Oswal Wool, Girnaar Textiles, Film Finance Corporation, T. Naveen Pictures and Magnum Films in Delhi.
He released over 100s of films as a financer, producer, distributor and exhibitor and was known as “Jackpot Distributor” in 1980s as per Film Trade Guide.
The famous Gujarati article “Sarp-Dansh” details his encounter with a venomous snake, apparent death and miraculous revival with the intervention of Punjab Kesari Acharya Shri Vijay Vallabh Surishwar Ji.
Recognising his significant contributions to devotional music and social work, a prominent road in New Delhi was named in his honour as “Shri Ghanshyam Dass Jain Marg,” in 2013.
